Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills
For young people 13+ and adults
If you have difficulty managing/understanding your emotions and behaviours and/or are struggling with self-harm and suicide ideation then you may benefit from learning DBT skills alongside talking therapy.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy teaches us that there is always more than one way to see a situation and more than one way to solve a problem. DBT understands that all individuals have unique qualities and different points of view. We learn acceptance and change.
The main skills taught are:
Distress Tolerance Emotional Regulation
Interpersonal Effectiveness Present Focusing
Walking the Middle Path
All DBT skills aim to:
Reduce any distress and emotional hurt you are experiencing
Positively support you in everyday life
Help you experience a range of emotions without necessarily acting on those emotions
Help you use your ‘Wise’ mind and walk the ‘Middle Path’ by bringing in flexible thinking and using skilful behaviours
DBT skills require a commitment of a minimum of twelve sessions.
If you would like to know more or wish to book a session please get in touch here.

DBT can be highly effective for Neurodivergent individuals. Skills are adapted to include sensory
needs and to help with specific difficulties such as Alexithymia, Emotional Dyskinesia and Rigid
thinking. Your autonomy is always at the heart of my work
